Where we're expanding
We're looking to expand into more areas, including Great Barr, Kingstanding, Birmingham city centre, Handsworth, Smethwick, West Bromwich, Walsall, Sutton Coldfield, Wednesbury and Wolverhampton.
Basic eligibility
To qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) you need to be 21 or over, hold a full driving licence for the vehicle category you'll be teaching in for at least 3 years, and satisfy the DVSA's "fit and proper person" standard — which includes a criminal record check as part of the application, not an automatic bar if you have one. It's the same standard every ADI in the country is held to, not something specific to Active Drive.
What it takes to become an instructor
Teaching learners professionally in the UK means qualifying as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with the DVSA — a three-part process covering a theory and hazard perception test, a test of your own driving ability, and a test of your instructional ability. Once you're qualified, joining an established local franchise means you're not starting from zero — you get a recognised local name and a route to build up a client base rather than trying to generate every enquiry yourself from a standing start.
